recreation-heart-phillips-signs-symbols-tilesAphrodisiacs have been around for nearly as long as humankind. Believed to enhance or engender feelings of a sexual/physical nature, aphrodisiacs are said to instill passion. Some of the strongest aphrodisiacs are food which is no big surprise as eating can be a very sensual act! Different foods are believed to help instill passion and get you in the mood for love.

Would you like to prepare a dinner made out of easy to get ingredients that will help to bring passion to the table? Check out this menu for a St. Valentine’s dinner sure to delight. It is not only easy to prepare/create, most of the ingredients are aphrodisiacs of one type or another. Invite your sweetie over and serve him or her this feast made from foods of love. Believed to arouse passions and physical desires, this menu could really help to heat things up.

Pre-Dinner Snack – Caprese (It’s nice to have a little snack waiting to nibble on before dinner)

Appetizer – Oysters on the half shell or 1 cup oyster stew (either cooked or raw they are said to work)

Protein Course – Prawns cooked your favorite way (I like scampi to keep it with the Italian flair)

oystersVeggie – 3 Asparagus spears wrapped in prosciutto and baked – sprinkle with a little basalmic vinegar.

Salad – Tomato Avocado Salad (easy, fresh, yummy and a double whammy – both tomato and asparagus)

Dessert- Strawberry and/or mango pieces dipped in dark chocolate. Doing a chocolate fondue would definitely be considered a good step in the right direction – and a lot of fun to feed to each other too!

Of course, if you do not care for the menu given here, feel free to create one of your own…you do not have to make your meal completely out of aphrodisiacs as I have here, just using a few of the ingredients would suffice quite well. If you do not like seafood, leave out the shrimp and oysters. Say that tomatoes just are not your thing – that is okay! You can still have some interesting aphrodisiacs on the table for a special dinner for your sweetie.

Some other simple and easy things to do to make that dinner more romantic: Put some music on the stereo, turn down the lights, light a candle or two, sprinkle some rose petals on the table, and add a bottle of your favorite wine. Use a green tablecloth with some pink rose petals (green and pink are the colors associated with the heart Chakrah and thus aligned with love) and add a pop of color with a single red rose symbolizing both romance and passion and you have a dinner that will impress. Your sweetie is sure to appreciate your efforts!

(Remember, moderation in wine and food makes the whole point of the aphrodisiac dinner a whole heck of a lot more fun for you both. Oh…and the aphrodisiac value works all year long, not just on St. Valentine’s Day!)
